This easy-to-make apple strudel has been a family favorite for years and offers just the right amount of sweetness to satisfy any craving.

Valsstrudel

Easy to Make Flaky Crust

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbl. Crisco
  • 2/3 to 3/4 cup almond milk

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix together dry ingredients using a fork.
  3. Cut in Crisco with knife or pastry blender.
  4. Add almond milk and form into a ball.
  5. Roll on floured surface into large oval.

Classic Apple Filling

Ingredients

  • 3 cups apple chopped
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 Tbl. Earth Balance Margarine melted

Directions

  1. Melt Earth Balance Margarine and brush onto prepared crust.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine chopped apple, sugar and cinnamon.
  3. Scoop topping in center of prepared crust leaving room on top and sides to fold close.
  4. Place on foil-lined baking sheet sprayed with cooking spray.
  5. Bake for 20 to 25 min., until golden-brown

Scrumptious Studel Topping

Ingredients

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2-3 Tbl. almond milk
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Directions

  1. Combine powdered sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and almond milk to reach a glaze-like consistency.
  2. Using a large spoon, drizzle over warm (not hot) strudel.
  3. Optional: top with crushed nuts
